The St. Lawrence field hockey team lost 2-0 to Skidmore on Saturday afternoon in Canton, New York.Â
A battle between two of the leagues top scoring teams, the game looked like it would be a high scoring affair. Both Skidmore and St. Lawrence found the back of the cage in the game's opening ten minutes, but both goals were disallowed due to penalties leading up to the shots. Neither team managed to put the ball past the keeper for the rest of the first half.
Skidmore's Sofia Marshall scored just as the second half started to break the deadlock. CC Wetter put the exclamation mark on the game by scoring at time was expiring to double their lead.
"Defensively we held strong," head coach
Fran Grembowicz said, "holding Skidmore to one goal until the last few seconds of the game. Both Cara and Lucy made some terrific saves."
First-year
Cara Vredenburg made 10 first half saves, and
Lucy Adiutori made 11 in the second half for the Saints. Victoria Bodnar got the complete game shutout for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore outshot the Saints 28-2, and had 17 penalty corners to the Saints' one.
