Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Saints Shutout Mustangs to Open Season, Win 6-0

The St. Lawrence field hockey team outshot Morrisville 41-4, as they cruised to their first win of the season, topping the Mustangs 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon at North Country Field.

Senior Marlee Paterson put the Saints on the scoreboard nine minutes into the first quarter and the Saints never looked back. Junior Mckenzie Haberl scored unassisted in the second quarter to give the Saints a 2-0 lead going into half time, at which point the Saints outshot the Mustangs 19-0.

Ava Hartley scored two second-half goals, Mackenzie Marcus and Maggie Green filled out the game's scorers. Jenny L'Hommedieu recorded a pair of assists, with Suzanne L'Hommedieu and Sofia Thompson also setting up goals.

Head coach Fran Grembowicz is impressed with her team on both halves of the field. "Up and down the lineup our passing was good, we were able to find the back of the net, and when Morrisville did break into our defensive half we played well as a unit and made some great plays in the circle to bring the ball back up. Everyone got that first game experience and a chance to feel comfortable on the field, so it really was a great day for the Saints."

Cara Vredenburg recorded the win in goal. Lucy Adiutori played in the net for the second half as the pair secured a shutout.

Junior Morgan Dueber recorded 20 saves for the Mustangs.

The Saints continue their home stand this weekend with the North Country Invitational hosting SUNY Oneonta at September 4 at 2 p.m. and New Paltz September 5 at 11:30 a.m.

If you can't make it to North Country Field you can watch the broadcast and follow along the live stats.
