Hein Moves Up All-Time Lists, but Saints Drop Pair to Union

Skylar Hein hit a double and a home run to lead the St. Lawrence University softball team, but the Saints dropped a pair of Liberty League games to Union by 5-1 and 5-3 scores in Schenectady on Saturday.
 
Hein now has 11 doubles in 27 games this season, which matches her career high, set in the 2019 season, when the Saints played 34 games. Her 31 career doubles ranks third on the Saints' all-time list, two behind Elle Gray '19 and 11 behind St. Lawrence Hall of Famer Michelle Circelli '03, despite playing in just three seasons.
 
She now has six career home runs, which is tied for ninth on the Saints' all-time list.
 
St. Lawrence fell to 5-22 overall and 5-19 in the Liberty League, while Union improved to 8-18 and 6-6. The Saints will wrap up the season with two more games against the Dutchwomen on Sunday at Saints Softball Field, with opening pitch in the first game scheduled for 1 p.m.

Game 1: Union 5, St. Lawrence 1

Meredith Rose hit an RBI double in the sixth inning, and seven different players had hits for the Saints.
 
Anna Zdunczyk hit an RBI triple, and Karson Saunders followed with an RBI single to give Union a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Olivia Valery added a three-run home run in the fifth to account for Union's runs. Zdunczyk was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Dutchwomen.
 
Hein hit a one-out double in the first inning for the Saints.
 
Makayla Koehler earned the win for Union, scattering seven hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.
 
Jacee Casebolt had the best outing in the circle for the Saints, allowing just one hit and strikeout out two in two innings.
 

Game 2: Union 5, St. Lawrence 3

Hein hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, and Gabby Slater hit a bases-loaded single to score two runs in the third inning, but Union once again used a three-run home run to overpower the Saints, this time coming off the bat of Catie Raeter.
 
Koehler was 2-for-3 to lead the Dutchwomen at the plate, while Karson Saunders was 2-for-3.
 
McKailey Lyndaker hit a two-out double in the third inning and later scored on Slater's two-run single.
 
Raeter picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts in four-and-a-third innings pitched. Amanda Granato earned a save, allowing just the solo home run by Hein.
 
Lyndaker was effective in the circle for the Saints, allowing three hits in three-and-a-third shutout innings.
