Michael Goretti hit his third home run of the season to lead St. Lawrence to a win in the first game, but Skidmore's Thomas Quinn and Matt McQuaid combined to throw a two-hit shutout in the second game as the Saints and Thoroughbreds split a Liberty League doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Tom Fay Field in Canton.
The Saints won the first game 9-2, and Skidmore bounced back with an 11-0 win in the second game.
St. Lawrence moved to 11-11 on the season and 6-8 in the Liberty League; Skidmore is now 6-7, 5-5. The two teams will wrap up the regular season with a pair of games in Saratoga Springs on Sunday. Both teams are still in the hunt for a spot in the Liberty League tournament.
"Today was a good example of how competitive our conference opponents are," said Saints' interim head coach
Kenny Collins. "Skidmore is a tough team and we ran into a pitcher who threw a great game in the second game. We now turn our focus to Sunday!"
