Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Saints Beat RPI 5-4, Clinch Liberty League Playoff Berth

Meredith Macey teamed with Gabriella Dadoly to win at No. 3 doubles, then won the clinching singles match to lead the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Rensselaer in a Liberty League match on Wednesday afternoon in Canton.

The Saints trailed 2-1 after doubles play, with the No. 1 and No. 2 matches going to the Engineers 8-7 in tiebreakers. Macey and Dadoly won at No. 3, 8-5.

After RPI won the No. 1 singles match, St. Lawrence reeled off four straight wins in singles play, capped by Macey's 4-1, 4-1 win at No. 5. Lillian Sullivan also won 4-1, 4-1 at No. 2, Rachel Caplan won 4-2, 4-2 at No. 3, and Elena Styliades won at No. 4, 4-0, 4-1.

The match started outside on Sammis Tennis Courts, but the teams were forced inside to Newell Field House halfway through doubles play due to rain. Sets in the singles matches were played to four games instead of the standard six in the abbreviated match.

The Saints improved to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in Liberty League play, while RPI fell to 0-2 both overall and in the conference.

St. Lawrence has clinched a spot in the Liberty League playoffs and will close out the regular season on Saturday at William Smith.
