Jaime Allan scored three goals and goalkeeper
Courtney Lynn made eight stops, but the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team fell to Clarkson 13-9 in Liberty League action on Friday evening at North Country Field.
Charlotte Powell added two goals for the Saints, while
Kylie Murphy recorded a goal and an assist and
Isabel Silvia,
Rachel Burke and
Morgan Arakelian also scored for the Scarlet and Brown.
Jacqui Cloutier recorded five draw control wins, two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while
Abigail Eberle picked up four ground balls and
Annie Wilson,
Callie O'Neil and
Isabel Silvia all tallied two caused turnovers.
After no score in the first nine minutes of play, Clarkson fired off three straight goals, taking a 3-0 lead with 13:21 to play in the first half. Allan put the Saints on the board at 12:0, before the Golden Knights took a 4-1 lead. Arakelian tallied her fourth goal of the season to cut the lead to two, but Clarkson ended the first half on another three goal run, for a 7-2 lead at halftime.
The Saints came out firing in the second half, recording their own three goal run with goals from Silvia, Powell and Allan to bring the game back within two, but the Golden Knights responded with four of their own to increase their lead back to 11-5 with 13:24 to play.
St. Lawrence recorded four more goals down the stretch and Clarkson added two more, but the Saints were unable to overcome Clarkson's lead.
"The Saints fought hard today after being on pause for nearly two weeks," said head coach
Hannah Corkery '11. "Even though we showed some of our rust, we also exhibited that we're a tough team to play against regardless of time off. We're excited for tomorrow."
Katie Sergeant led Clarkson with five goals, while Madelynn Barnum finished with three and Grace Hagberg and Julia Lavarnway both scored twice. Sydney Roderick totaled six assists, while Sarah Duhaime picked up three ground balls and Emily Fischer made seven stops in goal for the Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights held a 21-16 advantage in shots on goal, while both team each won 12 draw controls and the Saints held a 13-11 edge in ground balls.
Clarkson improved to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while the Saints fell to 2-2 and 1-2.
The Saints and the Golden Knights will meet again tomorrow in Potsdam for a 1 p.m. game at Hantz Field.
