Allan Scores Five, Leads Saints to 14-12 Win Over Union

Jaime Allan scored a career-best five goals and Charlotte Powell assed four goals and two assists to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 win over Union in Liberty League action, Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.

Isabel Silvia scored two goals and assisted on four others, while Kylie Murphy recorded two goals and Callie O'Neil tallied a goal and an assist for the Saints. Jacqui Cloutier led the Scarlet and Brown with six draw control wins, three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Liz Evans won four draw controls, while Annie Wilson picked up three ground balls.

Union took a quick 2-0 lead over the Saints, but goals from Powell, Allan and Murphy put the Saints back on top 3-2 with just over 21 minutes to play in the first half.

Both teams battled through three ties and ended the first half locked at 7-7.

Allan took the pass from Silvia to put St. Lawrence on the board first in the second half to lead 8-7. And after one goal from Union's Jennifer Kelly, the Saints scored four straight to take a 12-8 lead with 12:52 to play.

Looking to make a comeback, the Dutchwomen tacked on two more goals, but after trading two more goals each down the stretch, the Saints held the advantage for their first conference win of the season.

"The resilience the team displayed from yesterday to today was very exciting and a testament to our team's core," said head coach Hannah Corkery '11. "They stuck to the plan and never counted themselves out. Every year Union is a big game and one that enlists a lot of emotion and competition. Our goal was to not let them take us 2-0 and especially not home. We are proud of ourselves and cannot wait to keep making an impression in the Liberty League."

Sydney McPartlon led the Dutchwomen with three goals and two assists for five points, while Lindsay Gerrato and Dana Truini also scored three goals apiece. Both McPartlon and Gerrato won four draw controls, while Kit Christian caused two turnovers and Elizabeth Hernberg picked up three ground balls.

Saints' goalkeeper Courtney Lynn recorded the win with nine saves, while Union's Jenna Paszek made 13.

The Saints improved to 2-1 overall and moved to 1-1 in Liberty League play, while Union moved to 1-1 on the season.

St. Lawrence is scheduled to play Clarkson on Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m. in Potsdam.
