Saints Close 2020-21 Season with 63-47 Win Over SUNY Canton

Katie Chisholm scored a team-best 14 points and Cam Roberts recorded her second-straight double-double to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 63-47 win over SUNY Canton, wrapping up the abbreviated 2020-21 season for the Saints on Friday night in Canton, New York.

Chisholm shot 7-for-14 from the floor , while Roberts finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Saints. Sophomore Olivia Middleton scored 10 points and added 11 assists, while Sierra Sanson added 10 points and three steals.

After an evenly paced first quarter, St. Lawrence held a slight three-point lead over the Roos (15-12).

It was the second quarter that made the difference and built a large advantage for the Scarlet and Brown. The Saints outscored the Roos 25-8, shooting a combined 57.89 percent from the floor and going 3-for-3 from the arc, with shots from Middleton, Roberts and Sanson to build a 40-20 halftime lead.

Shannon Rhone landed a 3-pointer to close the third quarter, which gave the Saints a 23-point lead heading into the final frame.

SUNY Canton worked the Saints lead back into the teens, on a 13-4 run to open the fourth quarter, but that was as close as the Roos would come before the clock expired.

"Nice first half after a slow start," said head coach Dan Roiger. "The second half we lost some intensity and got sloppy, but enough in the tank to win comfortably. We shot the ball well in the first half but not in the second. However, we had great ball movement the whole game and had good shots. It was just a matter of if we made them."

Chelsey Raven led SUNY Canton with 20 points, shooting 7-for-15 from the floor, while Shanelle Borth recorded 10 rebounds and Samantha Dayter tallied four steals.

St. Lawrence combined to shoot 40.3 percent from the floor and recorded 25 points of turnovers, while the Roos shot 33.3 percent and scored 13 points off turnovers.

The Saints wrapped up their season 5-4 overall, while SUNY Canton fell to 0-4.

"I was very happy with our season," Roiger added. "I feel like we made the most of what was possible and want to thank our University President, our athletic administration and our training staff for making it possible. It was a season of great progress for our young players, they learned a lot about college basketball and gained excellent experience for the future!"
