The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team lost to Union 71-51 in Schenectady, N.Y. on Friday night.
Will Engelhardt led the Saints with 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Saints.
Trent Adamson added nine points, and first year center
Andrew Cowan had a career high seven points and six boards in his 19 minutes off of the bench.
Engelhardt hit a jumper in the lane midway through the first half to put the Saints up 16-10. The Dutchmen responded by closing out the half outscoring the Saints by 15 to go into the break up 31-22.
Union opened the second half with a pair of buckets to extend the lead to double digits, and the Saints struggled to cut into it. Engelhardt and Cowan hit back-to-back layups to bring the game within eight points five minutes into the half, but a Mike Manley 3-pointer extended it back to 11, which would be the closest scoreline for the remainder of the contest.
"We didn't have good energy getting off the bus," head coach
Chris Downs said. "Union jumped on us and completely pushed us around on both sides of the floor. We will regroup and be ready to play Skidmore on Saturday."
Edward Baptiste led all scorers with 16 off the bench for the Dutchmen, and teammate Brian Noone added 15 and eight boards.
Union came down with a dozen more rebounds than the Saints, and shot 48-percent from the floor in the second half. The Saints had six more turnovers than the Dutchmen and only recorded five points off of turnovers, compared to Union's 21.
