The St. Lawrence men's basketball team overcame a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Skidmore 58-57 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore shot 40-percent from deep in the first half, and held St. Lawrence to zero 3-pointers and went into half time with a 38-25 lead.
Skidmore extended their lead to 16 five minutes into the second half, but the Saints went on a 15-2 run over the next 10 minutes to make it a one possession ball game at 51-54.
The Saints continued to chip away at the Skidmore lead, and with just over a minute to play
Trent Adamson scored a layup through contact to give the Saints their first lead of the second half at 58-57. Both teams traded defensive stops, and Skidmore called a timeout with 11 seconds left to set up one final possession. The Saints' defense did its job, and forced an off balance floater that hit the side of the rim as time expired.
"We played three very low energy halves of basketball this weekend," said head coach
Chris Downs. "If we are going to compete in the Liberty League, we are going to have to learn to play with the energy we did tonight in the second half of the Skidmore game."
Adamson scored a season high 24 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal as he led the Saints on both ends of the floor.
Will Engelhardt put up 16 as the only other Saint in double figures.
Greg Skoric had 18 points and 11 boards for Skidmore, and Ty Lamport also had a double-double for the Thoroughbreds with 15 points and a dozen rebounds.
The Saints shot 40-percent from the floor. After Skidmore's hot start, they were held to less than 30-percent from the floor in the second half, and 17-percent from beyond the arc.
