Sophomore defenseman
Tucker McIntosh scored the lone goal for the Skating Saints, as the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team closed the weekend with a 5-1 loss to seventh-ranked Western Michigan University on Saturday night at Appleton Arena.
With the loss, St. Lawrence fell to 3-6-4 overall, while the Broncos improved to 10-4-0.
Aidan Fulp retrieved the puck and circled his own net before skating across the blue line and dishing the puck to Paul Washe, who walked in and scored the first Broncos' power play goal of the night at 3:53 of the first.
With Western Michigan on the power play once again, the Broncos' Drew Worrad played the puck to Ty Glover at the end line. Glover found Cole Gallant on the doorstep, who put Western Michigan up 2-0 at 8:49.
Looking to bring the game back within range, senior captainÂ
Kaden Pickering pulled the puck off the boards up to
Chris Pappas, who passed off to
Tucker McIntosh. McIntosh skated across the Broncos' blue line, into the slot and fired a shot under the glove side of Broncos' goaltender Brandon Bussi to bring the game within one, just before the close of the first period.
After one period of play, Western Michigan led 9-6 in shots.
The Broncos were first to the scoresheet in the second period. Michael Joyaux and Ethan Frank passed back-and-forth before Frank fired a one-timer rocket from the left circle past Zetterquist for the 3-1 lead at 3:19.
After a scramble in front of the Saints' net, Josh Passolt played the puck up the point, where Aidan Fulp would skate in and score to increase the Broncos' lead to 4-1 at 18:34.
Frank added his second of the night making it 5-1 at 3:48 of the third and capped the scoring for the evening.
Zetterquist made 25 saves between the pipes for the Scarlet and Brown, while Bussi made 20 saves for the Broncos.
Western Michigan finished with a 30-21 advantage in shots. The Broncos scored three power play goals, going 3-for-7 with the man advantage, while the Saints went 0-for-3.
The Saints will continue their home-game stretch hosting Cornell and Colgate next weekend, December 3rd and 4th, respectively. Puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights and the Saints will be collecting donations for their non-perishable food drive on Saturday.
