Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Skating Saints Fall To Fifth-Ranked Quinnipiac

The Quinnipiac offense exploded for eight goals as the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team fell 8-0 to the Bobcats on Saturday at the People's United Center in Hamden, Conn.

The Saints fell to 3-4-4 on the season and 2-2-2 in ECAC play, while Quinnipiac improved to 10-1-3, and 3-0-1 in conference play.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring five minutes and 36 seconds into the contest off a goal from Joey Cipollone. The Bobcats would double their lead just over three minutes later on the power play. Ethan de Jong was the benefactor of a nice passing play from Zach Metsa and Ty Smilanic as Quinnipiac took the 2-0 lead.

The Skating Saints would settle in and create some pressure in the back half of the first period. While on the penalty kill, first-year defenseman Mason Waite head manned the puck up the left side boards and put a great wrist shot on Yaniv Perets. The effort was turned aside, but Aleksi Peltonen was there for a rebound bid. The junior forward was also turned away as the score remained 2-0.

The game was put out of reach in the second period as the Bobcats scored five goals in the frame. Grad transfer Oliver Chau scored first then Quinnipiac got two goals from Smilanic, including a penalty shot goal, and de Jong scored two goals to complete his hat trick.

Emil Zetterquist stopped 16 shots in the contest, while Grant Adams saved 14 in relief of Zetterquist. Perets stopped 23 shots in the win. The Bobcats held the 38-23 advantage in shots on goal in the game. St. Lawrence went 0-2 on the power play, while Quinnipiac went 1-4.

The Skating Saints will head back to Canton for Thanksgiving, then will be back to Appleton Arena on Friday, November 26th to take on Western Michigan in the first game of a two-game non-conference set. Puck drop for Friday and Saturday's contests will be at 7:00 p.m.
