First-year Brasher Falls, New York native,
Will Arquiett scored his first collegiate goal for the Scarlet and Brown and
Cameron Buhl scored in the shootout effort, but it was the Crimson's Sean Farrell, who gave No. 6/10 Harvard the 2-1 shootout edge after a 1-1 regulation tie on Saturday night at Appleton Arena.
The Crimson collected the puck at the Saints blue line and after the original shot from Harvard's Austin Wong was deflected, Baker Shore was able to bury the goal before the Saints net slipped off its posts, giving Harvard a 1-0 lead at 4:53 of the first period.
Despite the score, the Saints held a 10-6 advantage in shots after one.
With a set of two nifty moves, Arquiett found his way past two Harvard defenders to score his first collegiate goal in stellar fashion on the backhand past Crimson goaltender Derek Mullahy.
Both the Saints and the Crimson produced solid opportunities in the third period and the extra frame, but both goaltenders were up to the task. Â
Heading into the shootout,
Kaden Pickering was stopped by Mullahy with a diving blocker save and Harvard's Casey Dornbach put the Crimson up 1-0 with a quick shot past
Emil Zetterquist in the first round.
Mullahy stopped
David Jankowski's shootout attempt, and Zetterquist made the save against John Farinacci.
Buhl was the lone scorer for the Saints, finding the five hole past Mallahy, but Farrell beat Zetterquist between the pads for the 2-1 shootout edge.
"That was a good college hockey game tonight," said Charles W. Appleton Head Men's Hockey CoachÂ
Brent Brekke. "Harvard is a very skilled team with a deep line up. We were good on the penalty kill again tonight and minimized some of their power play options. We had some good looks and a number of odd man chances that we need to find a way to finish the play off and put the puck in the net. But a good performance overall against a real good hockey team."
Mason Waite led the Saints with six shots, while Harvard finished with a 27-24 shot advantage.
Zetterquist made 26 saves for the Saints, while Mullahy finished with 23.
The Scarlet and Brown went 0-for-2 on the power play and successfully killed off all four of Harvard's extra man opportunities.
The Saints moved to 2-3-4 on the season and 1-1-2 in ECAC play, while Harvard moved to 4-2-1 and 3-1-1, respectively.
St. Lawrence will hit the road, facing Princeton and Quinnipiac on November 19 and 20. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
