Box Score The St. Lawrence men's basketball team topped the Saxons of Alfred University 69-65 in overtime to finish the Alfred Invitational 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Trey Syroka finished with a Saints' high 21 points, nine coming from overtime, and
Will Engelhardt added 17 points and 10 boards for his first double-double of the season.
Luke Hicks finished with 11 points and four rebounds in a game-high 39 minutes.
The Saints trailed 58-52 with less than four minutes left in the second, but scored six straight points to close out regulation and sent the game into overtime tied at 58.
In overtime the St. Lawrence outscored Alfred 11-7, including going five for six from the free throw line, to take the victory 69-65.
"Our defense was very good today," said head coach
Chris Downs. We held the Saxons to just one field goal in the final four and a half minutes of regulation and all ten minutes of overtime. "We have a lot of work to do with a short turn around to get ready for Plattsburgh."
St. Lawrence shot 38.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, while Alfred had a field goal percentage of 37.3 and 25.9 percent from deep.
The Saxons out-rebounded the Saints 44 to 26, but Alfred committed seven more turnovers. Â
