Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Reynolds and Silvia Score To Power Saints' 2-1 Win

Emma Reynolds and Isabel Silvia each scored their third goal of the season to spark the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team's 2-1 win over Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at Wachenheiem Field.

The Saints improved to 7-5-2 on the season and 3-4-1 in the Liberty League. The Thoroughbreds fell to 7-5-1 and 3-3-1 in conference play. With the win, St. Lawrence is tied for fifth-place in the Liberty League with Vassar and Skidmore at 10 points. The Scarlet and Brown now own the tiebreaker with Skidmore, but a loss to Vassar earlier in the season gives the Brewers the tiebreaker going into the final week of the regular season.

"I thought we would need a bit of luck to go our way today, but we played our socks off from start to finish," said head coach Sinead McSharry "We played with bravery and conviction and had some fantastic goals and shots. Credit to the team for finding a way in a big game."

The Saints got on the board twenty-seven minutes and five seconds into the contest. Duun Cocozza O'Hara, who had seven points in her last contest, played a stolen clear attempt and ran the ball to the corner deep in Skidmore territory. O'Hara made a cut back on the defender and fired a low pass to Reynolds, who was on the near post. Reynolds collected the ball and beat Ava Keller to take the 1-0 lead.

First-year defender Jenna Durkin earned her second assist of the year in the second half as she set Silvia up for the eventual game-winner. Durkin collected a ball that came out to her and struck a well-placed ball into Silvia in scoring territory. Silvia beat Keller through heavy traffic to double the Scarlet and Brown lead.

The Thoroughbreds, who also have their eyes set on playoff positioning, turned up the pressure as they tried to get back into the game. Skidmore would eventually break through at the 81:03 mark. Katheryn Dunn gained a step on the Saints defense and sent a long cross towards Paige Karl. Karl ripped a 25-yard shot past Keely Snode to make it a 2-1 game.

Snode and the St. Lawrence defense shut the door in the last eight minutes and change to ice the contest.

Snode stopped ten shots for the Scarlet and Brown in the crucial win, while Keller stopped 10 of her own in the loss.

The Scarlet and Brown owned a 19-17 edge in shots and a 12-11 advantage in shots on frame. The Saints did well to pin the Thoroughbreds for long stretches and were awarded six corner kicks to Skidmore's two.

The Saints will be back at Sandy MacAllaster Field next Saturday, October 30th to take on the Herons of William Smith with a playoff berth hanging in the balance. The St. Lawrence University women's soccer program will be celebrating senior day as they will honor the seven members of the Class of 2022 in their last regular season home contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
