Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Saints Fall to Bombers 2-1

The St. Lawrence field hockey team let in a late goal to lose to the Ithaca Bombers 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y.

With five minutes left in the second quarter Mckenzie Haberl took a penalty corner and found first-year Suzanne L'Hommedieu. L'Hommedieu took a low shot that junior Maggie Green tapped in for her sixth goal of the season for the Saints to take the first half lead.

Ithaca evened the score in the third quarter off of a penalty corner. First-year goalkeeper Cara Vredenburg made a kick save, but Grace Ziehnert collected the ball and pushed into the back of the cage.

With less than four minutes to go the Bombers took advantage of another penalty corner. After a series of passes, Grace Ziehnert took a pass 15 yards out with space and time to collect the ball and pick out her spot, beating Vredenburg for her second of the game and fifth of the season.

"It was a very well played game by both teams," said head coach Fran Grembowicz. "The team connected well throughout the game."

Vredenburg had 10 saves for the Saints. Macy Brandwein made six for the Bombers.

Ithaca had 12 shots on target to St. Lawrence's seven. Haberl had four, Green had two, and Mary Clark had the other.
