Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Fall 2-0 To Vassar

Keely Snode stopped six shots, but the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Vassar on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

The Saints fell to 5-5-2 on the season and 2-4-1 in the Liberty League. The Brewers improved to 8-4-1 and 3-2-1 in conference play.

"I thought we played better today than yesterday," said head coach Sinead McSharry "We just cannot get out of our own way when it comes to sticking to our gameplan."

It was Vassar that sstruck first sixteen minutes and 29 seconds into the first half. Noelle Namba made a heads up pass down to Jacqueline Morrison, who had a Saints defender closely guarding. Morrison spun off the tackle and beat Snode to the far side post to take the 1-0 lead.

The game went into a lengthy delay due to lighting spotted nearby with 13:50 on the clock. After the delay, and a quick warmup, both teams resumed play.

With just under five minutes remaining in the half the Brewers would get their second of the contest. Following a Scarlet and Brown foul, Violet Munnelly lined up for a free-kick from long range. Munnelly fired a long pass into Isabel Leinenweber, who deflected it home for the 2-0 lead.

St. Lawrence came out of the half with a renewed sense of urgency, and nearly cut the lead in half with 25 minutes remaining. Yesterday's hero Emma Casey was making her way down the field when she spotted Tyler Potter on a run. Casey split the defenders and found Potter in open space. Potter's shots sailed high to keep the game at 2-0.

Snode stopped six shots for the Scarlet and Brown, while Claire Mackenzie stopped all three shots she faced for the Brewers.

Vassar had a 15-9 edge in shots and an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Brewers also had the 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Scarlet and Brown go back on the road, but stay in Canton on Wednesday, October 20th to take on SUNY Canton at 4:00 p.m.
