Arnaud Vachon landed the last blow to lead Colgate to a 4-3 win over the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team in a back-and-forth ECAC Hockey battle on Sunday afternoon in Hamilton, New York.

Vachon scored the game's final goal with 1:34 to play, just 50 seconds after St. Lawrence junior Kaden Pickering had tied the score with an extra attacker goal, his third tally of the weekend.

St. Lawrence had 1-0 and 2-1 leads earlier in the game, but Colgate took its first lead of the game, 3-2, with a pair of goals early in the third period.

"I thought our game as a whole was better tonight than last night," said Charles W. Appleton II Head Men's Hockey Coach Brent Brekke, whose Saints defeated the Raiders by the same 4-3 score the previous night. "But they did a good job eliminating second and third opportunities at their net. We had some quality first attempts, but too many one-and-done around their crease. We need to be better in the hard areas to win that type of game."



Justin Paul gave the Saints a 1-0 lead with a power play goal halfway through the first period, putting away a rebound after Colgate goaltender Carter Gylander stopped a shot by Jordan Steinmetz right on the doorstep. Cameron Buhl also earned an assist on the play.

Matt Verboon tied the game with a power play goal of his own for Colgate five minutes later, wiring a one-timer from the top of the right circle high glove side to beat St. Lawrence goaltender Francis Boisvert.

Nicholas Trela scored his fourth goal of the season off an offensive zone faceoff win by Cameron Buhl halfway through the second period to give St. Lawrence a 2-1 lead.

Ethan Manderville tied the score for Colgate just over two minutes into the third period with a shot from the top of the right circle, and Alex Young put the Rairders ahead by backhanding a crossing feed from Josh McKenchney into the goal less than five minutes later.

Pickering tied the game with a snipe into the top left corner from the high slot, with David Jankowski and Trela earning assists, but Vachon scored the game winner after a lofted puck took a bad hop and he found a lane to the left side of the net, where he was able to tuck a shot inside the far post.

St. Lawrence had a 32-21 edge in shots on goal, but Gylander stopped 29 shots and prevented the Saints from ever extending their lead to more than one goal. Boisvert made 17 saves in his first start of the season for the Saints, who fell to 4-4-2 overall and in conference play. Colgate improved to 4-6-3, 3-5-2.

The Saints, whose games with Niagara next weekend have been canceled, will face Quinnipiac in Hamden, Connecticut, for a pair of ECAC Hockey games on February 5-6.
