Frederick Posts New Career High; Saints Split Conference Weekend with Win Over RIT

Katie Frederick passed her career high set earlier this season against William Smith by scoring 32 points to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 62-35 win over RIT in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, New York.

Frederick shot 15-for-17 from the floor and posted her 11th double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. She also led the Saints with two blocks. Second to Frederick, first-year Olivia Barringer added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Annabella Pugliese finished with eight points and Dylan Watkiss tallied a team-best six assists.

"Katie was feeling it today," said head coach Dan Roiger. "She finished at the rim left and right, with power, and hit her face up shots as well. She has worked hard on her shooting and it is fun to see the results."

A quick back-and-forth battle landed in favor of the Saints, as the Scarlet and Brown posted an 11-8 lead after the first ten minutes of play. St. Lawrence held the Tigers to just five points in the second quarter to take a 28-13 lead at halftime.

The Saints continued to outscore the Tigers 19-8 in the third, maintaining at least a 20-point advantage through most of the quarter.

RIT looked to rally in the final ten minutes, ultimately edging the Saints by one, but the Tigers were unable to overcome the early deficit.

"Our defense was spectacular today," Roiger added. "Our execution of the game plan was excellent and we did a much better job on the boards today than we had been."

Brooke Stanley led the Tigers with 15 points, while Sabrina Wolfe grabbed 10 rebounds and Kaleesha Joseph recorded two blocks.

St. Lawrence shot a combined 46.2 percent from the field and held RIT to just 16.4 percent.

The Saints posted their ninth win in the last 10 games, and improved to 15-6 overall and 11-3 in conference play, while the Tigers fell to 10-11 and 7-7.

Next weekend, the Saints will travel to Skidmore and Ithaca. Game time against the Thoroughbreds is set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14 and the Saints will take on the Bombers on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m.
