Chris Jeffrey recorded his third double-double of the season, leading the Saints with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but a strong second half powered RIT to a 80-61 win over the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, New York.
Jeffrey also added two blocks, while
Trent Adamson and
Cale Sargent scored 11 points each and
Andrew Geschickter added nine. Adamson, Geschickter and
Brandon Arnold tallied two steals apiece for the Scarlet and Brown.
RIT built an 11-point lead over the Saints just three minutes into the first half and held the lead through the majority of the first half. A 3-pointer from
Luke Hicks sparked a 12-2 run with 6:36 to play and
Brandon Arnold landed another 3-pointer with 51 seconds to play giving the Saints a 35-34 lead at halftime and their first lead of the game.
The Tigers regained the lead to open the second half on a shot from the arc by Curtis Nesbit and never looked back. The Saints kept the Tigers within single digits, but a 3-pointer from Keegan Ocorr put the Tigers back up by 11 and back-to-back dunks from Michael Smith and Cobey Adekanbi increased the Tigers lead to 15 with 4:04 to play.
The Tigers shot 7-for-8 from the line for the win.
Nesbit led the four Tigers in double-digit scoring with 20 points. Ocorr finished with 18, while Adekanbi added 13 and Michael Young finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tigers shot 45.8 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from 3-point range, while the Saints shot 41.2 and 29.4 percent, respectively.
The Saints fell to 7-13 overall and 5-9 in league play, while the Tigers improved to 7-14 and 4-10.
St. Lawrence will travel to Skidmore and Ithaca next weekend. Tip off against the Thoroughbreds is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 15.
