Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Skate to 1-1 Tie with Colgate

Julia Gosling scored the game-tying goal 10 seconds into the second period, and Lucy Morgan made 23 saves to lead the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 1-1 tie with Colgate in an ECAC Hockey contest at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton on Friday night.

The two teams also played to a draw in the first matchup of the season, 0-0, at SUNY Canton on November 9.

"That was almost an identical game as the one in Canton back in November," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "Both teams had chances to win on multiple occasions. Both goalies were sharp when needed. We left everything we had out on the ice tonight. Getting points this time of year is important and the one we earned tonight is a big one. It was an up-and-down, fun game to watch."

Malia Schneider gave Colgate a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period, taking a feed from Danielle Serdachny in the slot and moving from her forehand to the backhand before flipping the puck into the net.

Gosling tied the score just 10 seconds into the second period, scoring her seventh goal of the season on a wraparound after the Saints won the period's opening faceoff.

Both teams had a number of chances to take the lead. Shailynn Snow was stopped by Colgate goaltender Liz Auby five minutes into the second period, and just a few seconds later, Kayla Vespa wired a wrist shot off the crossbar. Morgan made a highlight reel glove save on Eleri MacKay halfway through the second. Colgate's Rosy Demers hit the pipe with a shot from the left faceoff dot with less than a minute to play in the second and both teams had golden opportunities in the last minute of overtime, but neither team was able to come away with the win.

Auby matched Morgan's performance, stopping 23 shots as both teams totaled 24 shots on goal.

Both teams were perfect on the penalty kill, with St. Lawrence killing four power plays and Colgate killing three. The Saints' penalty kill has now killed off 30 straight.

St. Lawrence moved to 11-10-6 overall, 6-6-3 in ECAC Hockey, while Colgate is now 13-11-5, 7-6-2. The Saints remain in seventh place in the conference standings, with Colgate one point ahead in sixth.

The Saints will face No. 4 Cornell at Lynah Rink in Ithaca on Saturday at 3 p.m.
