Hicks Scores 22, Saints Edge Golden Knights 65-64

Sophomore Luke Hicks scored 22 points and the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team rallied to outscore Clarkson 35-27 in the second half, en route to a 65-64 win over the Golden Knights in Liberty League action on Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

Hicks shot 10-for-18 from the floor and grabbed three rebounds, while first-year Andrew Geschickter finished with 15 points and two steals and Chris Jeffrey added 11 points and nine rebounds. Trent Adamson grabbed a team-best 13 rebounds and added two blocks for the Saints.

The Golden Knights came away with the early lead on a layup from Reese Swedberg and maintained an edge over the Saints for the remainder of the first half. The Saints managed to come within three points on a free throw from Adamson, but the Golden Knights held a 37-30 lead at the break.

Clarkson extended its lead to double-digits on a 3-pointer from Roburt Welch early in the second half, but a quick 7-1 run by the Saints midway through the half, tied the game at 55. With the Golden Knights down by three, Ryan Miles-Ferguson attempted the 3-pointer to tie the game, but was met with a big block from Adamson, to keep the Saints out in front.

"It was a tough battle tonight," said head coach Chris Downs. "We scraped by with the win, but we'll need to regroup and buckle down to prepare for another league weekend."

Chris Hulbert led Clarkson with 21 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the arc, while Welch added 10 points and Swedberg grabbed 13 rebounds.

St. Lawrence combined to shoot 37.5 percent from the floor to the Golden Knights' 32.2 percent.

With the win, the Saints improved to 6-10 on the season and 4-6 in conference play, while Clarkson fell to 4-13 and 4-6.

The Saints will host Bard and Vassar on January 31 and February 1, respectively. Game times are set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
