Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Defeat Bard 72-61

Cale Sargent shot 6-for-8 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the arc to score 19 points and lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 72-61 Liberty League win over Bard on Friday evening in Burkman Gymnasium.

Second to Sargent, first-year Trent Adamson tallied 11 points, five assists and five rebounds, while Miles Davis finished with 10 points. Steve Low recorded four out of 12 Saints' steals, while Luke Hicks dished out a team-best seven assists and six rebounds.

An early battle for the lead landed in favor of the Saints after two ties and back-to-back 3-pointers from Sargent and Jack Scotnicki, with just under 10 minutes to play in the first. A layup from Davis gave the Saints an eight-point advantage (37-29) heading into the second half.

A 3-pointer from Brandon Arnold increased the Saints lead to double digits early in the second half, and despite a 3-pointer from Tyler Bruns to bring the game within nine at 14:08, the Saint maintained their double-digit margin over the Raptors for their fourth win in the last five games.

"We worked hard this week offensively and the guys are reading and reacting better to our motion offense," said head coach Chris Downs. "The output of 26 assists to eight turnovers really proved that the guys are learning and we did a better job sharing the basketball tonight. We realize how important tomorrow's game vs. Vassar is and were looking at it like a playoff game."

Bruns led the Raptors with 16 points, shooting 3-for-6 from the arc, while Elliot Harris added 14 and Kevin Le finished with 13. Stamatis Koulouris recorded a team-best eight rebounds, while Stefanos Psarras tallied three steals.

St. Lawrence combined to shoot 51.8 percent from the floor and held Bard to 46.0 percent. The Saints also tallied 24 points off turnovers and 38 points off the bench.

The Saints improved to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play, while the Raptors fell to 0-17 and 0-11, respectively.

St. Lawrence caps its seven-home-game stretch against Vassar, tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
