Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Four Saints Net Double Digits in Win Over Skidmore

Sophomore guard Luke Hicks led a quartet of Saints with 17 points, helping the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 66-63 win over Skidmore in conference action on Saturday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.

Hicks shot 6-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line and added six rebounds, while Andrew Geschickter recorded 15 points, shooting 3-for-5 from the arc. Trent Adamson tallied 12 points, while Chris Jeffrey added 10 and the pair each grabbed six rebounds. Adamson also recorded three blocks and Geschickter finished with a team-high three steals.

After three lead changes to open the first half, the Saints pulled ahead 21-19 on a 3-pointer from Geschickter with 6:38 remaining in the first frame. The Saints maintained their edge and went up by eight points on a jumper from Hicks at 3:34, but the Thoroughbreds managed a 31-30 edge at halftime on a 3-pointer from Riley Greene with 28 seconds to play.

Skidmore kicked off the second half with a dunk from Greg Skoric, but the Saints regained control on back-to-back buckets from Adamson and Geschickter, and capped a quick 7-0 run with a 3-pointer from Brandon Arnold. Adamson increased the Saints lead to 10, shooting 2-for-2 from the line and Scarlet and Brown shot 6-fo-6 from the line to hold off the Thoroughbreds for the win.

"Today was an important win for our team moving forward," said head coach Chris Downs. "We need something to build on and were getting better every week, but the players need to see the result with a W in the win column. I'm hopeful that this will motivate them for next week in practice and help us get ready for two tough games against RIT and Skidmore next weekend."

Greene led the Thoroughbreds with 15 points, shooting 3-for-5 from 3-point range, while Harrison Eichelberger finished with 14 points and a team-best seven rebounds and Ty Lamport added 10 points.

The Saints combined to shoot 50.0 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from the arc and held Skidmore to 39.7 percent and 38.1 percent, respectively. The Scarlet and Brown totaled 22 fast-break points and 23 points off turnovers.

St. Lawrence moved to 4-9 on the season and 3-4 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore fell to 4-10 and 3-4.

The Saints will host RIT and Hobart on January 24 and 25, respectively. Game times are set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
