Trent Adamson led the Saints for the second game in a row, posting a career-high 22 points, as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team defeated Bard, 70-48, earning its first conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
Adamson shot 10-for-19 from the floor and added nine rebounds and two blocks for the Saints. Classmate
Miles Davis added 11 points, while
Chris Jeffrey grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds and
Andrew Geschickter added four assists.
After an early battle for the lead, the Saints pulled ahead on a 19-0 run to take a 25-7 lead with 6:12 remaining in the first half. St. Lawrence maintained its double-digit spread to lead 29-17 at the half.
Bard opened the second half on a fast-break layup from Elliot Harris, but the Raptors were unable to bring the game back within single digits for the remainder of the game.
The Saints outshot the Raptors 41-31 in the second frame and held their largest lead of 24 points on a dunk from Davis with 2:02 to play.
"We're happy to head home with a win," said head coach
Chris Downs. " To start the year with five conference games on the road is hard. We look forward to getting home to the friendly confines of Burkman Gymnasium."
Harris shot 7-for-18 and led the Raptors with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Stefanos Psarras totaled 12 points and Stamatis Koulouris grabbed seven rebounds.
St. Lawrence improved its shooting from 28.21 percent in the first half to 53.57 percent in the second and held Bard to just 30.6 percent from the floor and 20.0 percent from the arc.
The Saints tallied 20 points off turnovers and 29 points off the bench in tonight's win, improving to 3-8 on the season and 1-4 in Liberty League play. Bard fell to 0-11 and 0-5, respectively.
St. Lawrence will host Ithaca on Friday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m.
