Trent Adamson shot 9-for-15 from the floor, scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added a career-high five blocks, but the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team fell to Vassar, 66-61, in Liberty League play on Friday evening in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Cale Sargent ranked second in the Saints' lineup with 13 points, while
Andrew Geschickter shot 3-for-5 from 3-point range to finish with 12 points. Sargent and
Brandon Arnold each recorded two steals for the Scarlet and Brown, while
Chris Jeffrey grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds.
The Brewers jumped out to a quick lead, but the Saints held their own battling within one twice before Vassar then went on a 15-2 run to take 27-13 lead.
St. Lawrence worked back into the single digits with a 3-pointer from Geschickter, closing the gap to six points at halftime.
The Saints pushed back and tied the game 47-47 with 9:28 remaining in the second half, however the Brewers regained the lead on a dunk from Tebay and shot 8-for-11 from the free-throw line for the win.
"It was a tough night on the road in the Liberty League," said head coach
Chris Downs. "We played ok defensively, but struggled to score. We will get up in the morning and look to regroup with a game against Bard."
Zach Bromfeld, Lance Tebay and Josh Brownridge each recorded 10 points for Vassar, while Bromfeld grabbed 17 rebounds. Tebay shot 2-for-5 from the arc and tallied a team-best two blocks and four assists.
The Brewers combined to shoot 40.3 percent from the floor, to the Saints' 38.3 percent. The Saints finished with 11 points off turnovers and 14 second-chance points, while Vassar finished with 23 points off the bench and eight second-chance points.
With the loss, the Saints fell to 2-8 overall and 0-4Â in conference play, while Vassar improved to 5-6 and 1-3.
The Saints will take on Bard tomorrow afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York at 4 p.m.
