Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Fall to Nationally-Ranked Engineers in Conference Play

Robert Reynolds scored his first goal of the season for the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, but the Saints fell to No. 15 Rensselaer, 3-1, in a Liberty League contest on Sandy MacAllaster Field.

The game was scoreless at the half, though RPI had arguably the best scoring chance through the first 45 minutes on a shot from distance by Arik Duncan. Duncan was denied by Saints' goalkeeper Ben Woelfinger, who extended and got his fingertips on the ball to push it over the crossbar to keep the Engineers off the board.

Joe Di Miceli put the visitors in front in the 48th minute when he headed down a corner from six yards out. His first header rang the crossbar, but the ball came right back to him for another header and a 1-0 RPI lead.

Duncan extended the Engineers' lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute when he slid a shot along the pitch and behind Woelfinger after taking on a Saints defender one on one.

In the 67th minute, Marvin Sibanda set up Reynolds with a cross to the left side that hit the Dana Point, California native in stride. He touched it forward and then slide through a shot from 15 yards out that beat RPI's Luke Brezak to get St. Lawrence on the board and cut the deficit in half.

The Engineers responded, though, just minutes later when Austin Betterly intercepted a clear attempt by Woelfinger and sent a through ball ahead for Josh Gaudino who was able to touch it in for the final goal of the afternoon.

RPI finished with a 16-10 advantage in total shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Both Woelfinger and Brezak finished with three saves on the day.
