Stuart Buxton was 6-for-8 at the plate and scored a walk-off run in the opener to lead the Union College softball team to a pair of Liberty League wins over St. Lawrence University in Schenectady on Sunday afternoon.
Elle Gray hit a solo home run in the first game for the Saints, and
Taylor Armijo stole a base in each game to bring her season total to a career-high 11.
St. Lawrence fell to 10-8 overall, 0-4 in the Liberty League, while Union moved to 8-9, 3-1.
Union 2, St. Lawrence 1
Buxton led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single up the middle, then continued on to third base after getting to second on a sacrifice bunt and was able to score after an errant throw from first to give the Dutchwomen a walk-off win in the opener.
Buxton also scored Union's first run on an RBI single by Julia Boule in the third inning.
Gray tied the score in the fifth with a solo home run, her second of the season.
Boule was 2-for-3 for the Dutchwomen, while Buxton was 2-for-4.
Angelina Carney was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Saints.
Makayla Koehler earned the win, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Caroline Young took the loss for the Saints, allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings.
Union 6, St. Lawrence 3
The Saints took a 3-0 lead in second game, but Union scored six unanswered runs to sweep the Saints.Â
Caitlyn Fuss scored on a wild pitch and
Sofia Adams scored on an RBI groundout by
Gabby Slater to give St. Lawrence a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and Gray added an RBI single in the third.
Union got two runs back in the bottom of the third, with Buxton hitting an RBI double and later scoring on a wild pitch. The Dutchwomen added four runs in the fourth to take the lead; Kayla Fisher hit an RBI single, Koehler scored Lindsey Podlaski on a fielder's choice bunt, Buxton hit an RBI double and Julissa Malana had an RBI groundout.
Buxton was 4-for-4 at the plate to account for half of Union's hits in the nightcap.
Skylar Hein led the Saints' offense, going 3-for-3 with a double.
Koehler earned the win, allowing just two hits over four innings of relief. Union starter Catie Raeter allowed three runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout in the first three innings.
Slater took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk in 3.1 innings. Young allowed one run on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief.
