The St. Lawrence University baseball team dropped a pair of Liberty League contests to Bard on Sunday afternoon, as the Raptors won game one 6-2 and then came from behind in the nightcap for a 13-4 win and the sweep in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
First-year
Cristian Forgione finished a combined 3-for-7 with two runs scored to lead the Saints, and was the only player to record a multi-hit game on the day.
Anthony Butler finished a combined two hits, including a two-run home run in game two that gave the Saints a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Game 1 –
Bard pulled away with three runs in the top of the fifth inning en route to their 6-2 win.
The team's traded runs in the second inning, as
Anthony Butler scored an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1-1 after an error on a hit to the mound by
Andrew Circelli allowed the rookie to reach safely.
Bard took 2-1 lead on an RBI single in the top of the third and then extended its lead to 5-1 with three runs on five hits in the top of the fifth.
Reliever
Anthony Ferraro got an inning-ending strikeout with the bases loaded to keep the deficit to just four runs.
In their last ups in the bottom of the seventh, with Bard leading 6-1, the Saints scored one more run on a pinch-hit RBI double down the left field line by
Alex Black, but left two runners stranded an eventually fell 6-2.
Starter
Cameron Morrissey took the loss, throwing 4.2 innings and allow three runs on seven hits with  strikeouts.
Louis LaCivita faced three batters in relief, and allowed two runs on three hits. Ferraro pitched the final 2.1 innings and also struck out four.
Game 2 –
The Raptors combined to score 11 runs in the late innings of the night cap en route to the 13-4 win to take the season series 3-1.
Nicholas Butler hit a one-out single in the first inning and
Anthony Butler followed with a two-run home run to left field two batters later to put the Saints in front 2-0 early.
The Saints tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead with three hits, including a two-run single to right by
Brian Comerford.
Bard then went on to scored 12 unanswered runs, including seven in the top of the eighth inning.
The Saints were outhit 15-7 in the loss.
Starter
Andrew Matthews pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Reliever
Ryan Carson took the loss, working 0.2 innings in relief and allowed four runs.
Charlie Pacilio,
Huck Haun and
Liam Reiner also made appearances on the mound for the Saints on Sunday.
