No. 19 Bombers Top Saints in League Play

Senior Alexandra LaMotte scored five goals but 19th-ranked Ithaca defeated the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team 19-8 in Liberty League action on Friday afternoon in Ithaca, New York.

Kylie Murphy scored two goals, added two assists and picked up one ground ball, while Emma Owens scored once for the Scarlet and Brown. Colby Hoffman grabbed three ground balls, while Isabel Silvia picked up two ground balls, won two draw controls and caused two turnovers.

The Saints started out strong, taking a 3-2 lead over the Bombers with two goals from LaMotte and one from Murphy with 16:05 to play in the first half. LaMotte scored her 19th and 20th goals of the season, while Murphy added her 17th.

The Bombers scored nine unanswered goals through the remainder of the first and start of the second have to take post a 5-3 lead at halftime and an 11-3 lead with 23:36 remaining in the second frame.

Ithaca outscored the Saints 14-5 in the second half for the win.

Jacqui Hallack and Elizabeth Rice led the Bombers with four goals each, while Bailey Herr notched two goals and assisted on three others and Megan Motkowski and Madison Boutureira each scored twice. Five other members of the Ithaca squad each scored once. Reid Simoncini won a team-high six draw controls and picked up five ground balls.  

Saints' goalkeeper Olga Lukas recorded six ground balls and made 12 saves, while Mackenzie Schade made nine saves for the Bombers.

The Bombers outshot the Saints 43-25 and held a 31-17 advantage in shots on goal. The Saints edged Ithaca in ground balls, 19-18.

St. Lawrence fell to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while Ithaca improved to 7-3 and 4-0.

The Saints will face 18th-ranked William Smith tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Geneva, New York.
