Emma Owens led the Saints with two goals, but 18th-ranked William Smith defeated the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team 17-4 in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Geneva, New York.
Kylie Murphy tallied a goal and an assist, while
Alexandra LaMotte scored once for the Saints.
Annie Vatcher and
Tayler Kent each picked up three ground balls. Kent also recorded a team-best two caused turnovers.
The Herons scored six unanswered goals to open this afternoon's game, including man-up goals from Rachel Yackel and Bizzer Gahagan.
Hannah Drechsel fed LaMotte for her 24th goal of the season and the Saints first goal, but the Herons added four more goals to close the first half with a 10-1 lead.
Owens added her 10th and 11th goals of the season, while Murphy added her 19th in the second half, but the Herons continued their hot streak, outscoring the Saints 7-3 in the second frame for the win.
Ellie Burns led the Herons with six goals, while Yackel, Anna Murphy, Sadie Mapstone and Gahagan each scored two goals. Kelsey Williams, Ellie Nowak and Nicki Santora also scored for William Smith. Ellen Arena recorded a team-best four ground balls, while Murphy won five draw controls and Mekayla Montgomery caused four turnovers.
Olga Lukas made 10 saves between the pipes for the Saints, while Olivia Hofmann finished with five saves for the Herons.
William Smith outshot the Saints 33-10 and held a 27-9 advantage in shots on goal.
St. Lawrence fell to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in conference play, while William Smith improved to 10-2 and 6-0.
The Saints will host Bard on Saturday, April 13 at 11:30 a.m.
