The St. Lawrence women's tennis team was edged by William Smith, 5-4, to finish their regular season schedule in Geneva, New York on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints trailed 2-1 following doubles play with a pair of 8-5 loss at No. 1 and No. 2 before
Maddie Nasch and
Carly Jefferson won the first match of the day, 8-6, at No. 3 over Kateln Nguyen and Charlotte Engebrecht.
Caroline Reilly,
Christina Ryan and
Grace van Tartwijk picked up wins in singles against the Herons.
Reilly edged Allie Perron 7-6, 7-5 at No. 1, while Ryan posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Kate Foley at No. 3. Van Tartwijk's win over Dina Rigas was also in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.
Nasch and Jefferson both won the opening set of their matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, but were bested in three.
St. Lawrence finishes the regular season fifth in the Liberty League standings and will advance to the postseason tournament next weekend at Cornell.
