Spencer Whitmire helped the St. Lawrence men's tennis team to wins in both doubles and singles in the final home match of his career to lead the Saints to an 8-1 win over RIT on Saturday afternoon in the Newell Field House.
The Saints got off to a 3-0 start with a sweep of doubles as both
Quinn Bermingham and
Leo Romanetz and Whitmire and
Alec Roslin earned 8-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. The No. 2 pairing of
Joshua Marvald and
Nico Haet also won 8-5 for St. Lawrence.
While five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets, two of them required second-set tiebreaks. Whitmire's win at No. 3 and Bermingham's at No. 6 were both 6-2, 7-6 (3) wins for the Saints.
The only three-set match of the day went to the Tigers, as Jake Wolicki edged
Alec Roslin 10-7 in a superbreaker at No. 4.
