The St. Lawrence women's tennis team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 9-0 shutout win over SUNY Geneseo on Friday afternoon in the Newell Field House.
The Saints' top doubles pairing of
Grace van Tartwijk and
Christina Ryan set the tone with the first win of the day, 8-0, over the Knight's Vanessa Lam-Tran and Grace Klomp. The No. 2 pairing of senior
Carly Jefferson and
Maddie Nasch followed with an 8-2 win, while
Caroline Reilly and
Marie Bank push the team lead to 3-0 with an 8-5 win at No. 3.
Van Tartwijk led the Saints in singles play, conceding just one game through two sets in her match against Julianna Schulz at No. 3 in a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets for St. Lawrence, while Jefferson – who will play her final match at home on Saturday morning – came from behind for a three-set win over Sam Montague at No. 5.
Montague edged Jefferson 7-5 in the first set, but the Sunapee, New Hampshire native responded with a 6-2 win in the second to force the superbreaker, which she took 10-6.
