Senior
Joe DeGuardia recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season and led the St. Lawrence baseball team with three RBI on the day, but the Saints fell 9-7 to SUNY Canton across town on Tuesday evening.
DeGuardia finished 2-for-5 at the plate, while
Andrew Circelli (2-for-4),
Joe Levin (2-for-3) and
Brian Comerford (2-for-4) also posted multi-hit games. Comerford also scored a team-best two runs in the loss.
The teams traded runs in the first two innings before the Roos took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single to right by Brett Hoberman.
In the top of the fifth, the Saints scored three runs on four hits to regain the lead and make it a 5-3 game in favor of the Scarlet and Brown.
Levin and Comerford hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, before
Nicholas Butler worked a walk to load the bases with one out. Rookie
Drew Courtwright drove in Levin to tie the game with a single to center, which also kept the bases loaded and set up an RBI walk for Circelli in the Saints' next at bat for a 4-3 lead.
DeGuardia recorded the second of his three RBI on the day in the fifth with a single to left that plated Butler to push the margin to 5-3.
The lead was short-lived, however, as SUNY Canton responded with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-5 lead and pull in front for good.
St. Lawrence pulled back within one in the top of the seventh, but Canton once answered to extend its lead.
Comerford scored on an RBI groundout by
Drew Courtwright in the top of the eighth to conclude the score for the Saints, as they were retired in order in the final frame.
