Wins in the top four singles positions helped propel the St. Lawrence women's tennis team to a 6-3 win over George Fox University on Friday morning in their final match in Orlando, Florida at the USTA National Campus.
The Saints took a 2-1 lead after doubles, with wins from their first and third pairings of
Caroline Reilly and
Christina Ryan and
Grace van Tartwijk and
Carly Jefferson, respectively.
Reilly, Ryan and van Tartwijk each went on to win their singles matches as well, as did
Katherine Apt, to help the Saints beat the Bruins.
All the singles matches were 2-0 decisions on Friday, with Reilly and Apt both posting commanding 6-0 victories in their second sets at No. 1 and No. 2 to clinch points for St. Lawrence.
Senior
Carly Jefferson's match at No. 6 was the most competitive of the morning, though she was edged by Alyssa Byde, 7-5, 7-6 (4).
