The St. Lawrence men's tennis team split its matches on Monday in Orlando, Florida, shutting out Lawrence College, 9-0, in the morning before falling to Colorado College 7-2 in the evening match at the USTA National Campus.
Leo Romanetz led the Saints with a pair of wins in singles play, first at No. 1 and then at No. 2 against the Tigers.
In the morning match against Lawrence,
Nico Haet and
Joshua Marvald held on for an 8-6 win in the top doubles spot to help the Saints' take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
While the Saints cruised to two-set wins in the bottom four positions, Romanetz and
Alec Roslin had to battle for their wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Romanetz edged Lawrence's Connor Maloney in a first-set tiebreak 7-6 (3) before posting a 6-3 win in the second set to clinch the point for St. Lawrence. Roslin, on the other hand, suffered a 2-6 loss in the first set to Aidan Delgado, but stormed back for a 6-0 win in the second and prevailed 10-8 in the superbreaker to secure the sweep.
In the evening match against Colorado College, Romanetz and
Spencer Whitmire earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively for the Saints. Both won their opening sets 6-4, while Romanetz took his second set 6-3 and Whitmire posted another 6-4 in the second against Colorado's Christian Kitchen.
