The St. Lawrence men's tennis team opened its spring break trip in Orlando, Florida with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to North Central College on Sunday evening at the USTA National Campus.
The Saints trailed 2-1 after doubles, with
Quinn Bermingham and
Leo Romanetz combining for an 8-5 win at No. 1 over North Central's top pairing of Victor Krueger and Justin Howes.
In singles,
Nico Haet, Romanetz and
Alec Roslin won their matches at Nos. 1-3, respectively, in straight sets. Both Haet and Roslin made short work of their North Central opponents in the first sets, posting 6-0 wins.
North Central edged the Saints'
Jordan Mamelak and
Arman Tavana at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively to take the match.
Mamelak opened with a 6-2 win over Andy Hinch in the first set, but Hinch battled back for a 6-2 win in the second and took the third 6-4.
In the sixth position, Tavana forced a tiebreak with Lucas Pindak in back-to-back sets, but Pindak prevailed 7-4 in the first and 7-5 in the second for a pair of 7-6 wins in the match for the Cardinals.
