Frederick Scores 18; Saints Defeat Union, 68-52

Junior Katie Frederick shot 8-for-10 from the floor and recorded her second double-double of the season and a strong first half from the Saints, helped guide the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 68-52 win over Union in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Schenectady, New York.

Frederick led the Scarlet and Brown with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Ava McCann added 15 points and Erin Kumler finished with 11. Annabella Pugliese grabbed 10 rebounds and totaled eight points, while Olivia Barringer tallied eight rebounds, and Kumler added six assists and two steals.

The Saints held a slight 14-13 lead after the first frame, but shot 56.25 percent from the floor in the second quarter to outscore the Dutchwomen 23-10 and take a 37-23 lead at halftime.

St. Lawrence opened the third quarter with an 11-0 run and a 3-pointer from Pugliese put the Saints up by 20 points with just under seven minutes remaining. St. Lawrence maintained the momentum and led by a 21-point spread (55-34) heading into the fourth quarter.

Union edged the Saints 18-13 in the final 10 minutes, but were unable to overcome the early deficit.

"We had a great response today," said head coach Dan Roiger. "The team knew what they needed to do to play better, and they concentrated and executed well. We played with a lot of energy and they played together with everyone making contributions. It's hard to win on the road and this was a gritty performance, I'm really proud of the team."

Amber Raisner shot 3-for-7 from the arc and led Union with 15 points, while Megan Lee added 12 and Laura Vinton recorded a team-best 14 rebounds. Raisner and Lee each tallied two steals, while Anna Metcalf and Raisner added four assists each.

The Saints finished with 18 points off turnovers and 15 fast-break points, while the Dutchwomen also totaled 18 points off turnovers and nine second-chance points.

St. Lawrence shot 48.0 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from 3-point range and held Union to 36.1 percent from the floor and 23.5 percent from the arc.

With the win, the Saints improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Dutchwomen fell to 2-4 and 1-1.

The Saints will face Clarkson in a Route-11 rivalry matchup on Tuesday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Potsdam.
