Saturday's rematch of the Route 11 Rivalry between the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team and No. 5 Clarkson featured four power play goals; one off the stick of St. Lawrence junior defenseman Jake Stevens, and the other three for the Golden Knights as they topped the Saints 3-1 at Cheel Arena in Potsdam.

Stevens' goal in the second period was his first of the season and, at the time, tied the game. However, Clarkson regained the lead just 37 seconds later and never looked back.

Senior goaltender Daniel Mannella did all he could to keep the Saints in it, making 38 saves on the night, including 18 in the second period.

Connor McCarthy opened the scoring for Clarkson at 12:08 of the first period during a 4-on-3 power play for the Golden Knights with both Alex Gilmour and Bo Hanson in the box for the Saints. He beat Mannella with a quick shot from just below the left circle that snuck inside the post for a 1-0 lead for the home team.

In the latter half of the second period, the Saints cashed in on their fifth power play of the game when Stevens beat Clarkson netminder Frank Marotte with a blast from the left point through traffic to tie things at 1-1 at the 13:26 mark.

Hanson and Zach Risteau picked up the assists on the Stevens' tally, extending Hanson's points streak to four games and pushing Risteau's team lead in points to a career-high 19 heading into the holiday break.

Eleven seconds after Stevens tied it, the Saints were whistled for another penalty setting up a power play chance for the Golden Knights, who needed just 26 seconds for Haralds Egle to net the eventual game-winning goal for a 2-1 Clarkson lead.

Midway through the third period, McCarthy scored his second of the game for the Golden Knights to push to the eventual 3-1 margin.

The Saints pulled Mannella with 2:21 to play to set up a 6-on-4 power play opportunity with Michael Underwood in the box for Clarkson. They had a flurry of chances late in the game looking to chip away at the deficit, but four were saved by Marotte, two were blocked and two sailed wide to keep the score at 3-1.

Marotte finished with 24 saves for Clarkson.

With the loss, the Saints finish their first semester schedule at 3-12-2, with a 1-6-0 mark in conference games. Clarkson improves to 11-3-1 and 6-1-0 in ECAC Hockey with the win.

St. Lawrence will return from the break in late December to travel to Dartmouth's Ledyard Classic for a pair of non-conference games with UConn and Colorado College.
