Golden Knights Edge Saints in Route-11 Rivalry Game

Sophomore Luke Hicks scored a team-best 23 points and recorded his second double-double of the season, but the Clarkson Golden Knights edged the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team 81-78 in Liberty League action on Tuesday evening in Potsdam, New York.

Hicks shot 10-for-19 from the floor and finished with 15 rebounds, while Andrew Geschickter went 4-for-8 from the arc to add 16 points for the Scarlet and Brown. Trent Adamson tallied 12 points, while Chris Jeffrey scored 11 and grabbed a career-best 19 rebounds. Geschickter also added two steals and a block for the Saints, while Cale Sargent assisted on six plays.

After six ties and 13 lead changes, the back-and-forth battle through the first half landed in favor of the Golden Knights with a 36-32 lead at halftime. Geschickter landed a shot from the arc with 1:50 remaining closing the gap to four.

A fast-break layup from Chris Hulbert extended Clarkson's lead to 11 points (50-39) early in the second half. A 12-3 run, featuring 3-pointers from Brandon Arnold, Hicks and Sargent, helped the Saints to tie the game at 53.

Clarkson pushed its lead back into double digits, but another run from the Saints brought them back within two points, but time would expire for the Golden Knights win.

Hulbert led the Golden Knights with 29 points, while Reese Swedberg notched a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Matt Higgins rounded out the top three scorers with 12 points, while Swedberg recorded five assists and two blocks and Hulbert finished with three steals.

The Saints shot a combined 47.0 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from the arc, while Clarkson shot 41.1 percent from the floor and recorded 21 second-chance points and 23 points off turnovers.

St. Lawrence fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference play, while the Golden Knights improved to 3-5 and 1-2.

The Saints will travel to New Haven, Connecticut for a 1 p.m. matchup against Albertus Magnus on Saturday, December 14 before heading home for winter break.
