The Ithaca Bombers scored twice to top the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team 2-0 in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, New York.
Marge Terhune and
Julia Hill each recorded a shot on goal for the Saints.
Ithaca struck first in the 48th minute of play, when Ally Christman crossed the ball to Alex Epifani, who gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead.
Â
In the 53rd minute,
Katie Clemmer looked to put the Saints on the board, but her shot just missed the goal hitting the crossbar.
Â
Epifani then recorded an assist as she sent a thru ball up to Molly MacFarland for the Bombers second goal in the 65th minute.
Â
"We didn't show up today mentally and physically and it showed all over the field," said head coach
Sinead McSharry. "Our communication was lacking and we panicked unnecessarily. The second half was a little better, but ultimately Ithaca was the better team on the day. We'll go back to the drawing board and start again."
Ithaca was led by Epifani with one goal and one assist, while MacFarland tallied one goal and Christman recorded one assist.
Saints' goalkeeper
Samantha Allen recorded six saves in goal, while Emma Fruhling made one save for the Bombers.
The Bombers outshot the Saints 16-6 and held an 8-2 shots on goal advantage.
With the loss, the Saints fell to 6-1-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in league play, while the Bombers improved to 8-0-2 and 2-0-0.
St. Lawrence will host Rensselaer on Wednesday, October 3 at 4 p.m.
