Allen Records Eight Saves, Saints Battle to 0-0 Tie with Rensselaer

Junior goalkeeper Samantha Allen, who ranks 25th nationally with a .897 save percentage, recorded a season-high eight saves to help guide the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 0-0 double-overtime tie against the Rensselaer Engineers on Wednesday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

The Saints' defense, which ranks 17th with a .900 save percentage and 16th with a .356 goals against average, was able to hold down the high-shooting Rensselaer offense despite being outshot 27-14.

The Engineers held a significant shot advantage, recording 14 shots in the second period, edging the Saints in shots on goal 8-1, but were unable to put one in the back of the net.

Isabel Silvia recorded the Saints lone shot on goal, while Julia Mulhern posted a team-best four shots.

In the 39th minute, Silvia sent a shot into the arms of Rensselaer goalkeeper Joey Lyons for the Saints only opportunity on net.

"I thought that overall our team was patient and people stepped up when it was needed," said head coach Sinead McSharry. "We had some good opportunities and we were strong right until the end. I'm proud of these women and what they were able to find within themselves today."

The Scarlet ad Brown recorded four shots throughout both overtimes, including a final shot over the crossbar from Mulhern.



Jacqui Richard, Whitney Wisnom, Emily Kaplan all recorded two shots on goal for Rensselaer.

Lyons finished with one save for the Engineers.

With the tie, the Saints moved to 6-1-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in Liberty League play, while the Engineers moved to 4-5-1 and 1-1-1.

St. Lawrence will host RIT on Saturday, October 6 at 3 p.m.
