Saints Fall to Union on the Road

Kayla Schmalz, Emma Jewett and Campbell Armstrong each netted two goals, but two four-goal runs helped power the Union Dutchwomen to a 14-9 win over the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team in Liberty League play on Friday afternoon in Schenectady, New York.

Armstrong also added one assist to lead the Saints with three points, while Rachel Boghosian, Ashley Norris and Greta Massey all scored one goal for St. Lawrence. Massey picked up a team-best five ground balls, while Monica Manning and Jacqueline Sovie both caused two turnovers. Morgan Barlow won five draw controls for the Saints, while Annie Wilson won four.

Both teams traded goals through the first 15 minutes of play, but Schmalz gave the Saints a 4-3 lead with her 21st goal of the season with 14:47 to play in the first half.

Isabel Bush kicked off the first four-goal run for the Dutchwomen with a free-position goal just over a minute later. Bush also capped the run with a second free-position goal and her fifth goal of the season with 14 seconds remaining in the first frame.

After the break, Schmalz opened up scoring for the Scarlet and Brown with an unassisted goal, closing the gap to just two.

Armstrong tallied her 22nd of the season to bring the Saints within one goal with 16:38 to play, but goals from Hannah Rosenberger, Kellie Cronin and two from Caitlin Pandolfi gave the Union Dutchwomen a 13-8 advantage heading into the final four minutes of play.

Armstrong netted one more for the Saints at the 3:54 mark of the second half and Rosenberger closed the game with a man-up goal and seal the win for Union.

Cronin netted five goals for Union, while Pandolfi, Rosenberger, Bush and Ramsey Walsh each added two and Corey Golden scored one, assisted on two others and picked up seven ground balls. Pandolfi caused a team-high three turnovers.

Saints' goalkeeper Olga Lukas made eight saves in net, while Union's Ellen Taney finished with 11 saves for the Dutchwomen.

Union held a 33-28 shot advantage, including a 22-20 shot on goal advantage.
