Clarkson's Jaid Baytos scored seven goals to lead the Golden Knights to a 12-9 victory over the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team in Liberty League play on Tuesday afternoon in Potsdam.
Greta Massey led St. Lawrence with three goals, while
Rachel Boghosian scored two and
Colby Hoffman,
Ashley Norris,
Kayla Schmalz and
Campbell Armstrong all added one. Armstrong finished with two assists for three points and Schmalz added an assist as well.
Monica Manning picked up a team-best four ground balls, while
Jacqueline Sovie won five draw controls and caused one turnover.
Katie Sergeant kicked off the scoring for the Golden Knights just 28 seconds into play, but Boghosian responded just 10 seconds later off the draw control and a quick pass from
Emma Jewett to tie the game at one.
Armstrong netted her 17th goal of the season to give the Saints a 2-1 lead with 24:26 to play in the first frame. About a minute later, Armstrong found Massey on the far side to put the Scarlet and Brown up 3-1.
Baytos countered and brought the Golden Knights back within one after a drive to the goal and a high shot past Saints' goalkeeper
Olga Lukas. Baytos then tacked on a man-up goal to tie the game around the halfway point of the first half.
Baytos competed a hat trick at 13:35 of the first frame, just about five and a half minutes after her first goal of the game.
Emma Andrews increased Clarkson's lead to two with a free-position goal at 11:23. Sergeant added her second of the game and Norris netted her 11th of the season, and Schmalz brought the game within one just 21 seconds before halftime.
After the break, Hoffman knotted the score at six with an unassisted tally for her third goal of the season. Aubrey Borgesi took the lead back for the Golden Knights with an unassisted goal of her own with 18:10 to play.
Armstrong fed Boghosian, who was waiting on the right side of the crease to tie the game once more at seven. Clarkson's Samantha Gladd kept the Saints from taking the lead with a huge save on a free-position shot from Boghosian.
Olivia Slade collected a pass from Norris and fed Massey on the inside to give the Saints an 8-7 lead, but Baytos scored the next four goals, including a man-down goal, to give Clarkson an 11-8 lead.
Sergeant also recorded a hat trick to cap the five-goal run and help seal the win for the Golden Knights.
Massey added one more for the Saints down the stretch, but there wasn't even time left on the clock to spark a rally for the Saints.
Sergeant scored three goals and Andrews and Borgesi each added one for Clarkson. Taylor Collins picked up three ground balls, won seven draw controls and caused three turnovers for the Golden Knights.
Lukas matched a season-high with 13 saves in goal for the Saints, while Gladd made 10 saves for Clarkson.
