Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Saints Edged by No. 13 SUNY Geneseo

Sophomore Emma Jewett scored her third goal of the game to tie No. 13 SUNY Geneseo at six, but the undefeated Knights scored three unanswered goals and held the final advantage, despite two late goals from the Saints, to defeat the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team 9-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.

Second to Jewett, first-year Campbell Armstrong recorded two goals and assisted on another, while Rachel Boghosian netted two goals and Kayla Schmalz tallied one goal and one assist. Greta Massey grabbed a team-best four ground balls and Colby Hoffman caused four turnovers for the Scarlet and Brown.

Boghosian got the ball rolling with her 13th goal of the season off a quick pass from Massey. Emma Jewett netted her first of the game to help the Saints to a two-goal lead over the nationally-ranked Knights.

Carly Cullen put SUNY Geneseo on the board just over two minutes later, but Armstrong increased the Saints lead back to two with an unassisted tally with 20:38 to play in the first half.

The Knights netted four unanswered goals including two man-down goals from Tessa Doody and Hannah Millich to give SUNY Geneseo its first lead of the game and a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.

Both team's traded goals, before Jewett scored back-to-back to knot the game at six. Erin Cregan and Maddie Lee combined for the next three goals for the Knights. Cregan capitalized on a man-up opportunity to cap the three-goal run, which would serve as the game-winning goal for SUNY Geneseo.

Boghosian and Schmalz netted the final goals for the Saints with 1:02 to play in hopes of a comeback attempt for the Scarlet and Brown, but the Saints fell just short.

The Knights were led by Cregan with two goals and two assists, while seven other members of the SUNY Geneseo squad each scored once. Mallory Max picked up three ground balls, while Karen Boronczyk won five draw controls.

Saints' goalkeeper Olga Lukas recorded a season-high 10 saves in the loss, while Tess McFadden made eight saved for the Knights.

With the win, SUNY Geneseo remains undefeated at 7-0 on the season, while St. Lawrence fell to 2-4.

The Saints will travel to the University of Rochester for their second conference game of the season against the Yellowjackets on March 31st at 2 p.m.
