The St. Lawrence University football team scored 31 points with the wind at its back on Saturday, but was unable to overcome an incredible performance by Hobart running back Brian Haeffner, who rushed for 195 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 42-31 win over the Saints on a cold and blustery senior day at Leckonby Stadium.
St. Lawrence rookie quarterback
Tyler Grochot posted his third 400-yard passing game of the season, hitting the mark right on the nose with a 32-for-52 performance with a career-best five touchdown passes — one shy of the program record — and two interceptions.Â
Hobart, playing with a 25-30 mile per hour wind at its back in the first quarter, built a 14-0 lead on its first two drives with a six-yard touchdown run by Alex Milliken and a 14-yard score by Haeffner.
St. Lawrence responded, however, as Theodore Blaschinski forced a fumble deep in the Saints' red zone on the first play of the second quarter, which

After the St. Lawrence defense forced a punt, Grochot hit

Hobart appeared to pull away with an 11-yard touchdown pass from David Krewson to Jimmy Adams with just 1:30 to play in the second quarter, but the Saints quickly moved the ball down the field and cut the lead to 21-18 with a touchdown pass to
Sean McCormack with just 4.9 seconds left in the half.
Hobart once again had the wind at its back in the third quarter and once again outscored the Saints 14-0 in teh quarter on a five-yard touchdown pass to AJ Perlino and a one-yard run by Haeffner.
The Saints cut the lead to 10 on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Grochot to Murphy on the third play of the fourth quarter, but Hobart took a 42-25 lead on Haeffner's third touchdown of the day, this time from eight yards out, with 3:12 to play.
St. Lawrence marched down the field on their final offensive drive of the season, with Ferraro catching his second touchdown pass of the game from two yards out with just under 30 seconds to play, for the final margin.
