Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Edge Ithaca 2-1

Katie Stames and Hannah Merriam scored for the Saints as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team topped Ithaca 2-1 in a Liberty League contest Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

Stames put the Saints on the board off a pass from Kelly Mahoney. Stames' goal rebounded off the bottom right post to slip past Bombers' goalkeeper Stacey Digiorgio.

Merriam recorded her fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute after a volley inside the box from about 12 yards out. Rachel Muskin earned the assist.

In an attempt to rally, the Bomber's tallied their first goal of the game in the 88th minute of play, Kendall Cirella and Reid Garner assisted Kristyn Alonzo for her first goal of the season.

"We came out with a lot of intensity today and I was pleased with our ability to create opportunities," said head coach Franco Bari. "Our attack was strong, our defense held well and we stayed disciplined throughout the match. It was great to give a few younger players some conference experience at the end of the match. It was certainly a great game for us."



Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen recorded two saves for the win, while Emma Fruhling and Digiorgio combined for 10. 

St. Lawrence out shot Ithaca 28-9 and held a 12-3 shots on goal advantage.The Saints improved to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers fell to 3-6 and 0-2. 

The Saints will travel to RIT on Saturday, Oct. 7th for a Liberty League match against the Tigers at 3 p.m.
