Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Lifts RPI to 2-1 Win

Julia Mulhern scored St. Lawrence's lone goal in the 74th minute to tie the game 1-1, but Stephanie May scored the game winner just six minutes later to give Rensselaer a 2-1 win over the Saints in a Liberty League women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon in Troy, New York.

May assisted on the game's first goal, as Emily Dunn gave the Engineers the lead in the seventh minute.

Mulhern's goal came off a restart about 25 yards from the Rensselaer net. Julia Hill tapped the ball to Mulhern, who sent a laser into the top left side, glancing off the bottom of the crossbar on its way into the net.

"It was a tough result for us today," said head coach Franco Bari '98. "Once again we had to come back from a deficit and I have to give the team a lot of credit, we worked very hard to even the score."

Emily Kaplan set up the game-winning goal for RPI, sending a cross from the left side to May just outside the box. May one-timed her shot into the left side.

"Unfortunately, we broke down on one of their counter attacks and paid for it," said Bari. "RPI played hard and while we originally tried to match their aggression, we finally played our game about 20 minutes in and did really nice things. There is a lot we can take away from today's match as we direct our focus to Ithaca."

The game was an even one, with shots tied 10-10. Samantha Allen made three saves in the loss for the Saints, while RPI's Joey Lyons also made three saves.

St. Lawrence fell to 6-3-0, 1-1-0 in the Liberty League, while RPI improved to 5-2-1, 2-0-0. St. Lawrence will host Ithaca on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Sandy MacAllaster Field.
