Third Quarter Bid Lifts No. 8 Saints Over Clarkson

Jon Fairbanks recorded a hat trick as the eighth-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team rallied in the third quarter to earn 11-4 conference win over crosstown rival Clarkson under the lights Wednesday night at North Country Field.

Fairbanks scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Saints, while Andrew Jarrett and Steven Peterson scored two goals each. Jamie Kuppel added a goal and two assists for St. Lawrence. Conor Healey, Alec Dietsch, and Cal Hynson each scored one goal for the Saints. Ryan Brigham went 8-for-18 in the faceoff circle, while Caleb Kane and Jamie DeNicola picked up three ground balls each.

Both teams were evenly match through the first two quarters, as each team recorded one goal per quarter to tie 2-2 at halftime.  St. Lawrence dominated the third quarter pulling away from the Golden Knights. Peterson recorded his fourth goal of the season, while Healey scored his 17th. Healey currently sits fourth on the Saints all-time scoring list with 253 points, only eight points out of third place.  

Goaltender Alex Terry made a huge bounce save with just under three minutes to play in the third quarter, which led to a run down the field and Fairbank's third goal of the evening from the top of the arc, allowing the Saints to take a 7-2 lead.Terry recorded seven saves between the pipes for the Saints.

The Golden Knights responded with a goal from Shane Kilday to close out the third quarter, and another from Nate Smart just under two minutes into the fourth. Clarkson was able to cut the Saints lead down to four, but St. Lawrence added three unanswered goals down the stretch to seal the win.



Ryan DaRin, Kyle Brown, Kilday and Smart each scored a goal for the Golden Knights, while Nick Strandholm picked up a team-high five ground balls and recorded seven saves in goal. 

St. Lawrence advanced to 10-1 on the season and 3-1 in Liberty League play, while Clarkson fell to 6-4, 1-3.   

The Saints travel to Poughkeepsie, New York on Saturday to take on Vassar at 1:00 p.m.
